This is a slow-growing, evergreen conifer with dark green folaiage, and provides a great backdropfor shrub and herbaceous borders. It is tolerant to dry shade and acid soils, and urban pollution. Yew also makes a beautiful, formal hedge. Height 20m, spread 10m but it can be kept neatly as a hedge.
Dawn’ This is large deciduous upright shrub, with dark green leaves. It flowers from autumn to spring, with clusters of scented, light pink and white flowers. Plant in sun or light shade, on a moist, well drained soil. Height 2m spread 1.2m.
‘Penny’s Pink’ gives you profuse light pink flowers in late winter and spring that turn deeper pink as they age. It is evergreen, and the dark green foliage has prominent yellow veining. Likes full sun or shade in a moist but well drained soil. Height and Spread 40cm.
This beautiful flowering shrub grows well in sun or semi shade in a well drained soil. It’s semi evergreen and flowers from spring to autumn. The flowers are heavily scented. Heinght and spread – 90cm
The characteristic trumpet-shaped flowers of this foxglove are white with rich maroon speckles and splotches and carry on all summer. They grow best in full sun in a rich moist soil. Height 1.2 m spread 40cm.
Compactus’ is a compact deciduous shrub, turn red in autumn. Small green flowers followed by red-purple fruits containing orange seeds. Grow in full sun or shade, in a well drained soil. Height 75cm spread 1.2m
M. stellata is a slow-growing medium-sized deciduous shrub most noted for its spectacular white white flowers in early spring. Grow in full sun or semi shade in a well drained soil. Height and spread 2.5m
T. jasminoides is a fast woody climber with glossy dark green turning deep red in winter best known for its clusters of very fragrant white flowers. Grow in full sun or semi shade in a well drained soil. Height and spread – 5m.
