Making homemade bird feeders for your garden is a fun way for you and your kids to get to know which birds are native to your area, and a great way to help out your feathered friends when their food sources are scarce in winter-time.

Pine cone feeders are so easy to make – all you need is pine cones, peanut butter, seed and string to hang.

How To:

  1. Tie string to the top of the cone and get the kids to smear peanut butter over the entire cone with a spoon.
  2. Then roll the cones over a your bird seed and make sure it is nice and compact.
  3. Then all you have to do is hang in the garden – somewhere where you can from the window! If there is a lack of pine cones, this technique can also be done on empty toilet roll holders and placed on branches of trees.
