Raspberries love full sunshine but can tolerate a little shade. Shelter is also important because the canes can get damaged by wind. Well drained fertile soil is recommended. Feed well when in flower & in fruit with potash. Plant out in the spring. Loganberries, Blackberries and Tayberries are all grown the same as raspberries. Keep well watered in dry conditions.
When planting fruit and vegetables there are many products that you should use to enhance growth including Farmyard Manure, Gee-up Horse Manure, Celtic Gold – worm based compost, Chicken Manure, Seamungus, Bone Fish & Blood Meal and Goulding’s liquid fertilisers. If you want to keep it organic you can use garlic spray to kill any pests that affect your fruit and veg. Garden netting can also be used to protect soft fruits.
Make gardening fun – Get the kids involved in the process from the germinisation of seeds, to planting out your produce to weeding and feeding and the excitement of harvesting.
